Brace FAQs - GoToBro

Your Braces Questions Answered

At Bill Redmond Orthodontics, we know that getting braces raises many questions.

To help, we have made a list of Invisalign and braces FAQs and our treatments.

1. What Types of Braces Do You Offer?

We offer a variety of braces to suit different needs and preferences, including traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, and clear aligners and for a truly invisible appliance, we use InBrace a behind the teeth option for the esthetically minded. Each type has its own benefits, and we can help you choose the best option for your situation.

2. How Long Will I Need to Wear Braces?

The duration of treatment varies depending on the individual’s needs. On average, most people wear braces for 18 to 24 months, but some may need them for a shorter or longer period.

3. Will Braces Be Painful?

While you may experience some discomfort after adjustments, braces should not be painful. Any discomfort is usually temporary and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief.

4. How Often Will I Need Adjustments?

Typically, adjustments are needed every 6 to 8 weeks. These regular visits are important to ensure your treatment is progressing as planned.

5. Can I Still Play Sports or Instruments with Braces?

Yes, you can! We recommend using a mouth-guard for sports. For wind instruments, it may take a little time to adjust, but it’s definitely possible.

6. How Should I Clean My Braces?

We’ll provide you with detailed instructions on caring for your braces. This includes regular brushing and flossing and using special tools like interdental brushes.

7. Are There Foods I Should Avoid?

Yes, to protect your braces, avoid hard, sticky, or chewy foods. We’ll give you a comprehensive list of foods to avoid.

8. What Happens After My Braces Are Removed?

Post-braces, you will enter the retention phase, where you’ll wear a retainer to maintain your new smile. We’ll guide you through this process.

9. What is the Cost of Braces?

The cost varies depending on the type of braces and the length of treatment and, most importantly, your individual needs. We are not a one-size-fits -all type of place and we offer flexible payment plans and will discuss all costs upfront.

10. Do You Offer Orthodontic Care for All Ages?

Absolutely! We provide orthodontic solutions for children, teens, and adults.

Invisalign FAQs

What Is Invisalign, and How Does It Work?

Invisalign is a modern alternative to braces. It uses clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth. These aligners are custom-made. They fit tightly over your teeth. They will move your teeth into their desired positions in a series of steps over time.

It starts with a consultation and a 3D scan of your teeth. This helps create a personalised treatment plan. You will wear each set of aligners for one to two weeks. Then, switch to the next set. This will gradually achieve your perfect smile.

How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

The duration of Invisalign treatment varies depending on the complexity of your case. On average, it takes 12 to 18 months, but some minor adjustments may only need as little as six months.

In your initial consult, your orthodontist will give you a personalised estimate based on your needs. Regular check-ups ensure the treatment stays on track, so you can see progress as you go.

Is Invisalign Painful?

Invisalign is generally less painful than traditional braces. You might feel some pressure or mild discomfort when switching to a new set of aligners. This means your teeth are moving as planned. The sensation usually fades within a few days.

Invisalign aligners are gentler on your cheeks and gums than braces. They have no sharp wires or brackets.

Can I Eat and Drink While Wearing Invisalign?

One of Invisalign’s best features is that it’s removable, meaning you can take the aligners out to eat and drink. However, avoid eating or drinking anything but water while wearing them. It may stain or damage them.

After meals, brush your teeth before putting the aligners back in. This keeps your mouth clean and the aligners clear.

Is Invisalign Suitable for Everyone?

Invisalign suits most teens and adults wanting better smiles. But it may not work for very complex orthodontic cases. Severe misalignments or bite issues might need traditional braces or other treatments.

It’s best to consult an experienced Invisalign provider. They can assess your teeth and recommend the best option for you.
